The most challenging multidiscipline race in the UAE, the Red Bull Sultan of the Desert, Red Bull Sultan of the Desert finished few hours ago in Al Ain’s rough desert terrain. It was an endurance event that tested UAE athletes’ strength and stamina in a series of sport challenges with natural obstacles on.
Teams faced each other on the region’s longest man made Wadi Adventures’ whitewater channels built in the foothills of the majestic Jebel Hafeet.
The event brought together three main disciplines: running, mountain biking and kayaking. Teams of three (mixed gender also) and some solo riders went all out to lay their claim to the Sultan of the Desert title.
Both the running and mountain biking 15-km routes across Jabal Ḥafeeṫ Mountain Road and rough terrain with gravel and rocks on the outskirts of Al Ain in Abu Dhabi tested riders’ strength and conditioning of each squad member, in addition to their physical abilities and mental toughness.
As for the water competition and adrenaline-filled adventure, the 12 km kayaking section, on the other hand, took place in Al Ain’s scenic Al Mubazzarah lake and fabulous whitewater channels at Wadi Adventure. Wadi Adventure is the Middle East’s first man made whitewater rafting, kayaking and surfing facility – and it opened its doors at the beginning of 2012. Al Ain, known as the “garden city” and birthplace of the UAE’s most influential leaders, is now staking its claim as the Adventure Capital of the UAE. With world class facilities and a variety of activities, Wadi Adventure has become a regular weekend getaway for friends and families looking for adventure. That’s also why Red Bull have chosen this location for its first Sultan of the Desert.
